Opening Activity: STS Scavenger Hunt (wait to add link)
Each group of five will be given a topic. The group leader will login to typewith.me and start a session.
The lead will then email the web address of the typewith.me session to his/her team members.
All team members will begin adding anything/everything they know about their topic to the shared document.
Evaluation:
What things did others know about that topic that you didn't?
Did you help each other correct information you felt was incorrect? How did you handle that?
Did the collective group accomplish more than individuals would have been able to do on their own

1:30 D220 Distance Learning With Skype
Through this activity, participants will experience what distance learning/collaboration might be like for students working with other students in another location. Some classes work with students in other countries. Skype is also great for speaking with experts or working on Skype projects that have already been set up by other teachers, classes, etc.
Download Skype to your computer ahead of time if possible and create a Skype Account. Keep track of your Skype username so others will be able to look you up in the People Search on Skype. Here is a link to download Skype for Mac or Windows:
Create Groups of 4 and divide each group of 4 into pairs.
Share Skype usernames within each group of 4.
One pair from each group will go to a different location in the GEC (TBA) to work, taking with them the provided materials and their laptops.
Each pair will connect with their partners in the remote location via Skype by choosing "add contact" and doing a search for them.
At the same time, groups will be given a cue to open their envelopes and start reading the instructions.
Groups will work with their remote team members to solve the three problems listed in the envelope.
When the group is satisfied with their answers, they can contact Headquarters (The given Team Lead's Skype Contact info) and share their three answers.
The first group to Skype in all three correct answers to Headquarters will....hmmm....something (TBA). The suspense is killing me.
